S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology)


 

SMART is a monitoring system to detect and report hard disk drive failure. SMART warns the user/ system administrator about the hard disk failure while there is still time to recover. SapphireIMS provides an option to perform SMART monitoring.

How to Enable S.M.A.R.T from BIOS

1. Enter the BIOS setting screen during the computer’s power-on self-test by pressing F2.

2. Navigate to ‘Advanced’ and then ‘Device Configuration’

3. Enable the SMART setting. (This setting will not be visible if the hard disk does not support SMART)

4. Save and exit the BIOS settings

Note.gifNote:

1. Hard disk and the motherboard of the particular computer should support SMART.

2. To enable SMART in Linux machines make sure to install the ‘smartmontool’ (smartctl) a utility  in ‘/usr/sbin’ path.
