Installing Ultra VNC and Repeater for Remote Access

Remote access of computer systems is a key feature that has been incorporated into SapphireIMS.

SapphireIMS supports two types of remote connections

1.  Direct connection – UltraVNC server has to be installed on the remote machine to enable remote access in agent or agent less setup.

      2.    Repeater – This connection is applicable for SapphireIMS agent nodes. The repeater acts like a proxy, sitting in the middle between server and viewer. All data of the session is passed through the repeater.

1. Direct Connection - Ultra VNC installation

UltraVNC needs to be compulsorily installed to enable remote access. The first installation of UltraVNC can be considered as a master or base installation. The following screen shots aim to guide you through the installation proceedings. In case of any additional details, please refer to the documentation at

http://www.uvnc.com/install/installation.html

Files required for installation:

1. UltraVNC_1.1.9.6_Setup.exe

Installation:

1. UltraVNC_1.1.9.6_Setup.exe can be installed on Windows or UNIX based system .

Note: SapphireIMS is in-built with a script package to install UltraVNC. Go to IT Automation > Automation Tasks > Script Execution and execute the script  UltraVNC_1196_x86.zip on the desired host machines.

However, for UNIX based systems, UltraVNC Setup package for unix machines can be downloaded from the internet.

Register VNC Viewer at the controller end

After you install Ultra VNC server, you also need to install 'vncviewer.exe' shipped as part of UltraVNC installation at the target or controller machine and register the same

<ProgramFiles>\SapphireIMS\ConsoleManagement\ITAutomation\ to UltraVNC installation path <ProgramFiles>\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC folder

Pushing UltraVNC package from SapphireIMS

·         Get the ‘VNC_1196_x86.zip’ package

·         Create a new script package in SapphireIMS by using ‘VNC_1196_x86.zip’ . The ‘Run’ field in the configuration must be specified with ‘UVNC_Install.bat’

·         Create a ‘Script Execution’ job by selecting the appropriate vnc script package created

Note: The default password is set in the package. For password change please contact SapphireIMS support team.

2. Repeater Connection

Step 1 - Installing Repeater for remote access

When systems from outside LAN need to take remote access of systems within a LAN (like in a VPN environment), they contact the Repeater which facilitates the remote access connectivity. Please note that Repeater can be installed on any system within the LAN and is a mandatory feature for SapphireIMS agents.  For further information on the use of repeaters, please access the following link: http://www.uvnc.com/addons/repeater.html

Please follow the steps provided below to install and configure the repeater:

1. Double click executable file Repeater.exe

Note: Please contact SapphireIMS support team for Repeater.exe file

2. Right click the repeater icon (highlighted with red border) in the system tray and select settings.

3.  Settings screen will be displayed. Enable 'accept' (enable mode 1) the default port is 5901.

4. Save the settings

Step 2 - Configure repeater settings in the agent

Refer to Agent Global Settings

Step 3 - Configure remote control settings in SapphireIMS server

Refer to Remote Access Using VNC

Step 4 - If repeater settings are configured using VNC viewer,

copy C:\Program Files (x86 \SapphireIMS\ConsoleManagement\ITAutomation\SAPP_RDP.exe and place it in the vnc installed location of the machine (Client) from where you want to access the machine remotely (Target or agent) and then open the command prompt in vnc installed location and execute the following command SAPP_RDP.exe /register vncviewer.exe

Step 5 - Right click the agent tray icon and click on 'Remote Support' option

Step 6 - Click on the remote control icon in the Sapphire server as explained in Accessing VNC with SapphireIMS
